Mount Paektu or Mount Baekdu is an active volcano on the border between North Korea and China. At 2,744 m (9,003 ft), it is the highest mountain of the Changbai and Baekdudaegan ranges. North and South Koreans consider the volcano and its caldera lake to be their countries' spiritual home.

Kim Jong Un Climbs Mt. Paektu Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, climbed Mt Paektu, the sublime mountain of revolution. The ancestral mountain Paektu covered with white snow was displaying marvelous scene with glee at the reappearance of its great master. When Kim Jong Un ascended to the top of it, going through thick snow, it showed fine weather unprecedented in the blizzard of December winter, exposing its majestic figure. As if to give warm welcome to him who brought the "great November event" of the great Korea and show joy at the appearance of the peerlessly illustrious commander who controls the nature, the heart of the ever-changing Lake Chon on the top of Mt Paektu presented charming scenery showing magic peaks and dazzling sunshine on its clear and blue waves. Imposingly standing on Janggun Peak, the respected Supreme Leader gave a familiar look for a while at the dizzy cliffs and the sea of trees, recalling the emotion-charged days when he realized the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force without yielding even a moment and with the indomitable faith and will of Paektu. He said that he had often climbed Mt Paektu but this is the first time to have in mid-winter such nice weather, rare to be seen even in spring. The weather is so fine that we can see peaks on the shore of Lake Chon more clearly as if they are before our very eyes, he added. His eyes reflected the strong beams of the gifted great person seeing in the majestic spirit of Mt Paektu the appearance of a powerful socialist nation which dynamically advances full of vigor without vacillation at any raving dirty wind on the planet. He set forth the important tasks arising in better sprucing up into a center for education in the revolutionary traditions the sacred mountain of Paektu which is associated with the immortal revolutionary careers of the great leaders and serves as the mental mainstay of the invincible DPRK and the source of indomitable ideological strength. He said that the monument to Mt Paektu and education compound should be spruced up suited to the dignity of the holy mountain of revolution and "Mt Paektu, the holy mountain of revolution", an autograph of leader Kim Jong Il, should be displayed better heavily and politely to be seen most clearly anytime and anywhere. He stressed the need to build a new hotel well around the Paektu Station for the convenience of those who visit Mt Paektu as well as convenient facilities for making them have photos taken at several places where a bird's-eye view of the mountain can be obtained and have rests. Kim Jong Un Tarkastaa Vastarakennetun Samjiyon'in Perunatärkkelystehtaan

Kim Jong Un, Korean Työväenpuolueen puheenjohtaja, KDKT:n valtionasiain komission puheenjohtaja ja Korean kansanarmeijan ylipäällikkö, antoi paikanpäällä opastusta vastarakennetulla Samjiyon'in perunatärkkelystehtaalla.

Hänelle kerrottiin tehtaan toiminnasta tehdasta kuvaavan kartan edessä.

Tehtaan kokonaispinta-ala on 27 920 neliömetriä ja sen vuotuinen tuotantokapasiteetti on 4 000 tonnia. Tehdas koostuu perunatärkkelystuotantorakennuksesta, perunatuotteiden tuotantorakennuksesta, 20 000 tonnin perunavarastorakennuksesta, lisärakennuksesta sekä työntekijöiden asuinrakennuksesta.

Kim Jong Un tutustui tehtaaseen perinpohjin tehden kierroksen kontrollihuoneessa, tärkkelystuotantohallissa, tuotteiden esittelyhuoneessa, kulttuuri- ja hyvinvointitiloissa, tiede- ja teknologiaopetustiloissa, perunavarastossa sekä tehtaan muissa osissa.

Hän totesi, että tehtaan tuotantoprosessit ovat joka osalta hyvin moderneja ja pitkälti automatisoituja ja lisäsi, että tehtaaseen on asennettava lisää laitteita tehtaan eri tuotteiden tuotantokapasiteetin nostamiseksi ja niiden tekemiseksi tunnetuksi koko kansan keskuudessa Samjiyon'in maakunnan erikoisuutena.

Hän antoi tehtaan johdolle suoritettavaksi tuotantoon ja sen hallintaan liittyviä tehtäviä ja kehotti heitä huolehtimaan siitä, että tehdas tuottaa kansalle huomattavaa hyötyä laittamalla tehtaan tuotannon normaaliin toimintaan ja tuottamalla enemmän perunatuotteita.

Kim Jong Un Inspects Newly-built Samjiyon Potato Farina Production Factory Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, gave field guidance to the newly-built Samjiyon Potato Farina Production Factory. He was briefed on the factory before a map showing the bird's eye view of it. The factory, with a total floor space of 27 920 square meters and a yearly production capacity of 4 000 tons, consists of potato farina production building, processed potato production building, 20 000 ton-level potato storage, auxiliary building and workers' hostel. Going round combined control room, potato farina workshop, products show room, cultural and welfare establishments, sci-tech learning space, potato storage and other parts of the factory, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un acquainted himself in detail with its construction and production. He noted that the farina production process, ranging from raw material feeding, husking, washing, selecting, piece cutting, hot water handling, cooling, boiling, drying and milling to packing, has been highly automated and streamlined and its modernization level is very high. He said that more equipment and facilities of various kinds for the production of processed potato should be installed additionally at the factory to turn out in a larger quantity such processed potato products as nutritive rice, slice fry, twist, noodle and Udong as well as farina and thus make them known to the whole country as special products of Samjiyon County. He set forth the tasks for the management and operation of the factory, urging it to fully play its role as a factory giving substantial benefit to the people by putting its production on a normal track and turning out much more processed potato products. Saying that visitors to the revolutionary battlefields in Ryanggang and other people would be glad to see processed potato products being turned out at the Samjiyon Potato Farina Production Factory, he highly appreciated the feats of the builders, scientists and technicians who contributed to building the factory wonderfully. It is a rare and nice factory flawless in all aspects and a model factory in our country's potato processing industry, he said, adding that it would have been better to build this modern farina factory before long ago and show it to leader Kim Jong Il. The Supreme Leader expressed expectation and belief that the officials and employees of the factory would fully discharge their honorable duty, and had a photo session with them. Onnistuneen Ohjuskokeen Tekijöille Sankarivastaanotto Pyongyangissa

Henkilöt, jotka myötävaikuttivat mannertenvälisen ohjuksen Hwasong-15:n onnistuneeseen koelaukaukseen, saapuivat Pyonyangiin joulukuun 8. päivänä.

Sadat tuhannet ihmiset kaupungin katujen varsilla ottivat vastaan nämä sankarit. Kaupungin nuoriso ja opiskelijat laittoivat kukkaseppeleitä tiedemiesten, teknikoiden, työntekijöiden ja toimihenkilöiden kaulaan ja ojensivat heille kukkakimppuja.

Pyongyangin sisätilastadionilla oli puolueen ja valtion korkeita johtajia ottamassa vastaan sankarit.

Pohjois-Korean lippuja sekä punaisia lippuja ja kukkakimppuja heilutelleet väkijoukot kiittivät lämpimästi tiedemiessotilaita, jotka suorittamalla Korean Työväenpuolueen johdolla tämän onnistuneen ohjuskokeen saavuttivat voitonpäivän ja laittoivat lopullisen pisteen USA:n ydinasekiristykselle.

Contributors to Successful ICBM Test-fire Arrive In Pyongyang

Those who contributed to the successful test-fire of ICBM Hwasong-15 arrived in Pyongyang on Dec. 8.

Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life and school youth and children were waiting for the heroes of the nation along the routes from the plaza of the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium to Yongung Street, Pipha Street, Ryonghung Crossroads, Changjon Crossroads, Yonggwang Street, Mirae Scientists Street, Thongil Street, Chongnyon Street, Tongdaewon Street and University Street.

At the plaza of the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, senior party and state officials including Pak Kwang Ho, Kim Phyong Hae and Thae Jong Su greeted the contributors to the successful test-fire of ICBM Hwasong-15.

Youth and students in the city put garlands around the necks of the scientists, technicians, workers and officials in the field of defence science and presented bouquets to them.

Raging waves of flowers rolled through streets to welcome the buses carrying the contributors.

Masses, waving flags of the Republic, red flags and bunches of flowers, extended warm congratulations to the soldiers in the field of defence science who brought about the day of victory of putting an end to the U.S. nuclear blackmails and threats by succeeding in the test-fire of new-type ICBM under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Uusi Kirjasarja Auttaa Ymmärtämään Pohjois-Koreaa

Pohjois-Koreassa toimiva kirjankustannuslaitos Foreign Language Publishing House on julkaissut uuden kirjasarjan nimeltä "Pohjois-Korean Ymmärtäminen".

Kirjat ovat helppolukuisia ja lyhyitä, enimmäkseen noin 90-100 sivua. Teksti on useimmiten jaettu kymmeniin lyhyisiin numeroituihin ja otsikoituihin osiin niin että kirjojen lukeminen paloittainkin onnistuu helposti.

Omasta yhteiskunnasta selvästi poikkeavaa toisenlaista yhteiskuntaa voi olla vaikea ymmärtää oman yhteiskunnan arvojen ja mittarien mukaan arvioituna. Jos haluaa ymmärtää toisenlaista yhteiskuntaa, on tarkasteltava sitä tuon yhteiskunnan omien arvojen ja mittarien mukaan ja ensimmäinen askel tämän toteuttamiseksi on opetella tuntemaan tuon toisen yhteiskunnan arvot ja mittarit.

Mainittu kirjasarja kertoo Pohjois-Koreasta maan ja kansan omasta näkökulmasta katsottuna. Se auttaa oppimaan sen, millaiset arvot ja faktiset olosuhteet vallitsevat Pohjois-Koreassa, ja täten se auttaa ymmärtämään Pohjois-Koreaa. Ja kuten tiedämme, ymmärrys edesauttaa rauhanomaista rinnakkaineloa.

Pohjois-Koreassa Pidetty Maakunnallisia Kokoontumisia Onnistuneen Ohjuskokeen Juhlimiseksi

Viikonloppuna pidettiin armeijan ja siviiliväestön yhteisiä kokoontumisia Korean Työväenpuolueen ohjauksessa tehdyn onnistuneen ohjuskokeen juhlimiseksi Etelä-Phyongan'in, Hwanghae'n ja Hamguong'in maakunnissa.

Kokoontumisiin osallistui puolueen ja armeijan henkilöstöä, tehtaiden ja laitosten henkilökuntaa ja muita ihmisiä elämän kaikilta osa-alueilta, kuten esimerkiksi nuorisoa ja opiskelijoita.

Pohjois-Korean hallituksen julkilausuma luettiin ja sen jälkeen pidettiin puheita.

Puhujat sanoivat, että onnistunut ohjuskoe osoitti koko maailmalle sosialistisen Pohjois-Korean voittamattoman voiman.

He antoivat kunnioitetulle ylimmälle johtajalle Kim Jong Un'ille lämpimät kiitokset siitä, että hän on saattanut maan ydinaseohjelman onnistuneeseen päätökseen ja täten luonut maalle edellytykset ruusuiseen tulevaisuuteen.

Provincial Army-People Rallies Held to Hail Successful ICBM Test-fire    There took place army-civilian joint meetings in South Phyongan, Hwanghae and Hamgyong provinces on Dec. 2 and 3 to celebrate the great victory of completing the state nuclear force, the cause of building a rocket power, under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea. The meetings were attended by officials of local party and power organs, working people's organizations, factories, enterprises, farms and universities, men and officers of the Korean People's Army and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces and inhabitants from all walks of life including youths and students. A statement of the government of the DPRK was read out at the meetings to be followed by speeches. Speakers said the success of the new type ICBM Hwasong-15 test-fire conducted according to the political and strategic decision of the WPK was an auspicious event of all the people which gave birth to the tremendous might of putting the strategic position of the DPRK on the highest level and demonstrated to the world the invincible might of socialist Korea. They extended the highest glory and warmest congratulations to respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who added glory to the dignity of the powerful country and laid an eternal foundation for its rosy future by realizing the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force. Kim Jong Un Tarkastaa Amnokgang'in Rengastehtaan

Kunnioitettu ylin johtaja Kim Jong Un antoi paikan päällä opastusta Amnokgang'in rengastehtaalla, joka on onnistuneesti tuottanut renkaita, joiden tuottamista Korean Työväenpuolue on pitänyt erityisen tärkeänä.

Hän kätteli tehtaan henkilöstöä ja kiitti heitä hyvin tehdystä työstä. Hän tarkasti myös luokkahuoneen, jossa opetetaan vallankumouksen historiaa tehtaan työntekijöille.

Hän tarkasteli monenlaisia renkaita ja myös niitä isoja renkaita, jotka on tuotettu varta vasten viime viikolla testatun ohjuksen 9-akselisen kuljetusauton renkaiksi. Hän antoi syyskuussa tehtaalle tehtäväksi tuottaa tuollaisia renkaita "isoa marraskuista tapahtumaa" varten.

Tehtaan työntekijät täyttivät tehtävän loistavalla tavalla omavaraisuuden hengessä kaikista vaikeuksista huolimatta. Kim Jong Un antoi Korean Työväenpuolueen keskuskomitean puolesta erityiskiitoksen siitä, että tehdas on lyhyessä ajassa ja tuontitavaroita käyttämättä onnistunut perustamaan uuden tuotantolinjan näille isoille renkaille.

Hän antoi ohjeita tehtaan edelleen kehittämiseksi ja painotti muun muassa tehtaan työntekijöiden tieteellisen ja teknisen kouluttamisen sekä työntekijöiden elinolosuhteiden parantamisen tärkeyttä.

Edelleen hän painotti sen tärkeyttä, että tuotanto tehdään omavaraisesti, kotimaisella energialla, raaka-aineilla sekä teknologialla ja että tehdas tällä tavalla toimisi linjassa KTP:n asettaman kahden rintaman (aseellinen maanpuolustus ja taloudellinen kehitys) linjan kanssa.

Kim Jong Un Inspects Amnokgang Tire Factory Respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un gave field guidance to the Amnokgang Tire Factory which successfully carried out the task for producing tires prioritized by the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK). He shook hands with each official and thanked them for their trouble, saying that the workers of the factory solved the issue desired by the Party and gave great courage to him by making collective innovations in a drive for building new tires, and that he came to thank them. He looked round the room for the education in the revolutionary history. He underscored the need for the officials and workers of the factory to bear in mind the pride and honor of living and working at the glorious factory which was associated with warm love of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and to bring about fresh miracles and innovations in production, so as to add eternal luster to the undying leadership exploits performed by the great leaders for making the industry of tire Juche-based. He went round all kinds of tires made at the factory and the newly developed large-size tires ready for the ballistic rocket self-propelled launching vehicle. He gave the task of manufacturing without fail the large-size tire for the 9-axis self-propelled launching vehicle of our own style to the factory in September while he energetically guided preparations for a "great event in November". The officials and workers brilliantly carried out the order given by the Party by waging a courageous production campaign despite bottlenecks and difficulties under the uplifted banner of self-reliance. The Supreme Leader said he was greatly impressed to see the fighting spirit and working manner of the officials and workers who had established the new production process of large-size tire with domestic products, not depending upon imported equipment, in a revolutionary way and in a short time, and manufactured the new-type large-size tires, far superior to imports in their physical and mechanical properties. He expressed deep thanks to them in the name of the Central Committee of the WPK. He went round various places of the factory to learn in detail about production and management. He gave valuable instructions over the management of the factory. The tasks facing the factory included the issue of raising the production to a higher level by properly organizing economic work to meet the requirements of the present stirring times in which victorious advance is accelerated on all fronts of socialist construction, the issue of newly designing and upgrading the production process according to the trends of tire industry developing worldwide, the issue of pushing ahead with the supply of raw and other materials for putting production on a normal track, the issue of preparing the employees as intelligent workers equipped with modern scientific and technological knowledge and the issue of paying deep attention to the work for providing the workers with better living conditions. He said that it is necessary to turn out automobiles and other vehicles and manufacture all sorts of tires for them by our own energy, technology and materials, in order to satisfy the daily-increasing needs in developing the country's economy and beefing up national defense capabilities, and therefore the factory must be upgraded to be state-of-the-art one in line with the requirements of the era of the knowledge-based economy. The Supreme Leader expressed expectation and belief that the officials and workers of the factory would proactively contribute to implementing the WPK's line of simultaneously developing the two fronts, and had a photo session with labor innovators. Pohjois-Korea luottaa omaan teknologiaan ja raaka-aineisiin

USA ja sen lakeijat pyrkivät nitistämään Pohjois-Korean erinäisten pakotteiden avulla. "Rikos", johon Pohjois-Korea on syyllistynyt, on se, että se haluaa turvata itsenäisyytensä ja mahdollisuuteensa päättää itse yhteiskuntajärjestelmästään ja maan sisäisistä asioista. Tämä ei sovi USA:lle, jolle kelpaa vain ehdoton alistuminen USA:n maailmanvaltaan.

Korean sodassa 1950-53 USA tappoi noin neljäsosan Pohjois-Korean väestöstä ja tuhosi käytännössä kaiken infrastruktuurin, merta vastaan rakennetut peltoja suojaavat padot, rakennukset jne. Pohjois-Korea ei antautunut silloin eikä tule antautumaan nytkään.

Päinvastoin, pakotteet vain jouduttavat Pohjois-Korean omavaraistumista. Pyongyang Times kirjoitti hiljattain artikkelin, jossa mainitaan useita käytännön esimerkkejä maan omavaraistumisesta. Omaan teknologiaan ja raaka-aineisiin luottamista ja kaikenpuolista omavaraisuutta sekä sen mahdollistavaa itsekehitystä painotetaan aina kaikissa muissakin raporteissa, joissa kerrotaan milloin mistäkin teknologisesta ja taloudellisesta saavutuksesta.

Kangwon'in provinssin tiede- ja teknologiakomissio on kehittänyt prosessin alumiinioksidin tuottamiseksi. Aiemmin alumiinioksidi tuotiin ulkomailta.

Sama taho on myös kehittänyt uuden metodin grafiittielektrodien tuottamiseksi. Aiemmin provinssi joutui ostamaan grafiittielektrodit muualta ja käyttämään siihen suuren summan rahaa. Myös grafiittielektrodien tuotantoprosessissa tarvittavat välineet rakennetaan omalla teknologialla ja raaka-aineilla.

He tuottavat valkoista sementtiä sähkön avulla toteutettavavlla kalsifioinnilla, johon ei tarvita ulkomailta tuotavaa raskasta öljyä.

Edelleen sama taho kehitti metodin , jolla voidaan tuottaa zirkoniumsilikaattia, jota tarvitaan esimerkiksi keramiikkateollisuudessa, Kosong-meren hiekasta. Aiemmin zirkoniumsilikaatti piti tuoda ulkomailta kalliiseen hintaan.

Kehittelyn alla on erinäisten putki- ym. tuotteiden tuotantomenetelmiä, joissa käytetään raaka-aineena jätemuovia sekä puuteollisuuden jätepaloja. Toinen projekti on laatta- ja kylpyhuonetarviketuotanto, jossa käytetään vain kotimaisia raaka-aineita. Kolmanneksi kehitteillä on korkeapaine-eristin ja neljänneksi lannoitteiden komposiittituotantometodi.

By relying on local technology and raw materials The Kangwon Provincial Commission of Science and Technology is one of the model units which set an example in the campaign to develop the economy and improve the people’s livelihood by relying on domestic technology and resources. It has helped put production on a normal track based on the alumina production process. It set an ambitious goal to produce alumina independently, not importing it. “We have never produced alumina and there were little reference books we could rely on. Only a determination pushed us to the road no one had taken before,” said Kim Chol Jun, a department chief of the commission. An important thing was to produce alumina with the raw materials abundant in the province. At first, the research team paid attention to white earth and potassic feldspar. But after painstaking efforts, researchers found out nepheline which contains more alkali components than white earth and succeeded in setting up the nepheline-based alumina production process. In the wake of establishing the process at the Munphyong Smeltery, they refashioned its production processes on several occasions and realized the automatic control of its sintering furnace for the production of various goods. They have also set up a graphite electrode production process. In the past, the province spent heavily on purchasing graphite electrodes. Researchers got on with the study of a new method, not a moulding method based on the press, which was hard to be resolved at the time. In the course of the research, they conceived an original idea to make the electrode in the way of vibration moulding. They developed a vertical vibration moulding machine and established the graphite electrode production process at the Munchon Steel Works. They also paid attention to building the production processes that do not use imported materials but rely on locally-available raw materials. They have set up a process that turns out white cement by electric calcination which is free from imported heavy oil. They also developed a process of producing zirconium silicate, which had been imported for the ceramic industry, by using sand in the sea off Kosong, bringing huge benefit to the state. They are instrumental in the projects to produce equipment and materials badly needed for the economic development of the province, especially the establishment of a fittings production process which feeds on waste plastic and by-products from timber, a tile and sanitary ware production process that relies on locally-available raw materials and high-tension insulator and composite fertilizer production processes. “Nothing is impossible to those who believe in their strength. Self-development is the only way to survive. This is what we have experienced,” said Ri Il Sop, chairman of the provincial commission. By Han Ryo Gyong PT
